Monday, August 15: Tim Grey & Syl Arena
Tim Grey is regarded as one of the top educators in digital photography and imaging, offering clear guidance on complex subjects through his writing and speaking. Tim has written more than a dozen books on digital imaging for photographers, including the best-selling Photoshop CS4 Workflow and Color Confidence. He has also had hundreds of articles published in magazines such as Digital Photo Pro, Outdoor Photographer, and Popular Photography & Imaging, among others.

Syl Arena has wandered the world of photography for over four decades. Through his passion for innovation, he has become the voice for such creative flash techniques as high-speed sync, gang light, and moving the wireless master off camera. His new Speedliter’s Handbook is nearly 400-pages of how-to and why-to on Canon flash techniques. Syl blogs frequently on his two sites: Speedliting.com and PixSylated.com. He has written articles about Speedliting for EOS Magazine as Europe’s Canon Pro Network.

Tuesday, August 16: Craig Stevens & Terry Abrams
Craig Stevens is a photographer, printmaker and educator. He has taught, written and lectured extensively on the subjects of art and education and is currently a Professor of Photography at the Savannah College of Art & Design. This will be Craig's 31st year at the Workshops. He will be teaching "Experimental Printmaking" here through August 20.

Terry Abrams has been teaching photography since 1975, when he moved to Europe to establish photography programs for an American college. Since 1990, Terry has been teaching photography full-time at Washtenaw Community College. In addition to teaching, Terry creates photographs using the latest digital technologies and has numerous private and corporate clients. His images and writing are reproduced in numerous books on photography.

Wednesday, August 17: Cliff Zenor & Tim Estep
Cliff Zenor is a veteran nature photographer, tour leader and workshop teacher. For more than 15 years, he has photographed, toured and taught in parks and preserves across the country and in wild places like Kenya, the Galapagos Islands, the Brazilian wetlands and Alaska. His photographs have appeared in Outdoor Photographer, Horticulture, Fine Gardening magazines, the Chicago Tribune , textbooks and books including Indoor Gardening for which he was the principal photographer.

Tim Estep is a graduate of the Maine Media College film program. During his time there, he wrote, directed, produced and edited the short film, Route 11, which went on to win the Best Short Film award at several film festivals across Canada and the United States. After college, Tim moved to Los Angeles, where he produced commercials and developed feature film projects. In 2007, Tim produced a million-dollar feature film titled Familiar Strangers. He will be presenting parts of this feature during his presentation on Wednesday night.
“Familiar Strangers” asks the question. “Is it really possible to relate to ones parents and siblings after being replaced by the family dog? . . . Perhaps as friends - weird friends?”
“Familiar Strangers” is an off beat – funny – heartfelt story of a family negotiating the changing relationships between parents and children, especially as those children grow into adulthood.
“Familiar Strangers” follows the Worthington’s through a four day Thanksgiving gathering. Brian (Shawn Hatosy), who moved away and kept his distance for the past several years, is reluctantly returning carrying the baggage of unresolved conflict with his father Frank (Tom Bower).
Frank feels he has lost the ability to connect with his maturing children, and has replaced them with his pets, new children “who never have to grow up”.The matriarch Dottie (Ann Dowd) holds the reins on the family beneath the surface, brother Kenny (DJ Qualls) is a twenty-something who has not yet found his path, sister Erin (Cameron Richardson) is struggling to find herself after a painful divorce, and Erin’s young daughter Maddy (newcomer Georgia Mae Lively), observes with a wisdom truly beyond her years. Family friend Allison (Nikki Reed), long an admirer of Brian, is happy to find him back for a visit. She may just appreciate his family more than he does, and may help to make this return home bearable.Through conflict, ritual and communication, the Worthington family strives to find the friendship and love we all hope can exist between parents and their adult children.
