**Maine Media Workshops will be giving back to the Midcoast Maine community by creating and donating to the community an archive of ALL the entries submitted in the Midcoast Maine category
PRIZES - TOTAL VALUE OF OVER $25,000
One Grand Prize in Video, one Video Category Winner in each of the two categories and four Honorable Mentions will be awarded.

All winning videos will be posted on the Maine Media web site.
Awards Ceremony: Winners are invited to attend an Awards Ceremony at Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine in June 2013. Each winner will receive 2 tickets for the Friday night lobster dinner at Maine Media Workshops and attend an awards ceremony and a screening of all the winning entries of all photo and video Spirit of Place submissions. Transportation and lodging to attend the Awards Ceremony are not included.
All winning videos will be part of a public art display.
Winners may not receive cash in lieu of contest prizes. Winners can, upon providing written notice, transfer a prize to another party, i.e., in the event a winner cannot attend a workshop.
All entries will be anonymously reviewed throughout the Contest. Videos will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit.

All decisions made by the judges are final.
DEADLINES AND NOTIFICATIONS
The contest opens on October 1, 2012 and closes on February 1, 2013.
Video entries submitted between October 1, 2012 and December 15, 2012 are eligible for an early submission discounted fee.
All entries must be received before midnight PST on February 1, 2013 to be eligible.
Winners will be notified within four weeks after the February 1, 2013 deadline.
Winning entries will be posted online at www.mainemedia.edu/contest in March 2013.

All fees are nonrefundable.
Donation Note: A portion of all fees collected will go into the Maine Media Scholarship Fund. In honor of our 40th Anniversary, one photography workshop scholarship and one film workshop scholarship will be given to students in financial need.
All filmmakers of any level who are at least 18 years of age as of the date of video submission are eligible.
Individuals affiliated with Maine Media Workshops + College, including current full-time or part-time year-round employees, board members, and their immediate families (children, siblings and spouses) are not eligible to enter.
Maine Media Workshops shall determine winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion.
This contest is not available in all countries, states or provinces where rules translation, registration or bonding are required, and is void where prohibited.
All videos must be submitted electronically through our web site at www.mainemedia.edu/contest. No mail-in entries will be accepted.
Previously published material for which non-exclusive rights were granted may be entered as long as you still maintain the right to grant Maine Media Workshops a license.
For a video in which a person is recognizable, you must secure a model release from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject's parent or guardian and provide it to Maine Media Workshops upon request. You do not need to submit it at time of entry.
Each submitted video, in its entirety, must be a single work of original material taken by the Contest entrant. By entering the Contest, entrant acknowledges that the submitted video(s) is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the video does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the video. Videos that violate or infringe upon another person's copyright are not eligible.
The videos entered must not, in the sole discretion of the Maine Media Workshops, contain obscene, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable content. Entries deemed inappropriate will be disqualified.

Each entrant sets up an account on the contest registration site and registers for the contest "Maine Media Workshops Contest: Spirit of Place." An email confirmation will be sent to the email address affiliated with your account.
Follow the online instructions to upload and submit videos and pay fees.
The maximum length for a video is eight (8) minutes.
Entrants retain all rights to their work. Entrants must own and have exclusive copyright to all videos they submit. By submitting to Maine Media Workshops + College, entrants grant the use of videos for the purpose of marketing by Maine Media, for display on the Maine Media web site, for inclusion in a public art display and for inclusion in a visual arts archive available for use by the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce and its Members and by non-profit institutions in Midcoast Maine. Videos will not be sold.
As conditions of this permission, Maine Media Workshops shall attribute all videos to the maker.
We respect your privacy. Maine Media Workshops will not sell, rent or exchange your e-mail address.
This Contest is subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Certain restrictions may apply. Entries void if Maine Media Workshops determines the entry to not be an original, or if the entries are illegible, incomplete, damaged, irregular, altered, counterfeit, produced in error or obtained through fraud or theft.
Participants also agree (a) to be bound by these Official Rules; (b) that the decisions of the Judges are final on all matters relating to the Contest; and (c) if he/she wins that Maine Media Workshops may use each winner's name, city, state, and video in any publicity or advertising relating to current or future Contests. All federal, state, and local taxes on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prize winners.
Maine Media Workshops, in its sole discretion, reserves the right not to award all prizes in the event an insufficient number of eligible entries meeting the minimum judging criteria are received, and in this case will return the entry fees.
In the event that the selected winner(s) of any prize is/are ineligible or refuses the prize, the prize will be forfeited and Maine Media Workshops, in its sole discretion, may choose whether to award the prize to another entrant.
THIRD PARTY RELEASES/LICENSES
Upon request by Maine Media Workshops, each entrant must be prepared to provide a signed written personal release from all persons who appear in the video submitted, authorizing us to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the entry in connection with and promotion of the Spirit of Place Contest, in any media now or hereafter.
In addition, upon request by Maine Media Workshops, each entrant must be prepared to provide a signed written license from the copyright owner of any sculpture, artwork or other copyrighted material that appears in the video entry, authorizing us to reproduce, distribute, display and create derivative works of the video in connection with any promotions of the Spirit of Place Contest. Failure to provide such releases upon request may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
By participating, entrants agree to release, discharge and hold harmless Maine Media Workshops and each of its partners, affiliates, agents and its employees, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this Contest or any Contest-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded hereunder.
Maine Media Workshops assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or delay in operation or transmission; communications line failure; theft or destruction of or unauthorized access to Contest entries or entry forms; or alteration of entries or entry forms. Maine Media Workshops is not responsible for any problems with or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site, human errors of any kind, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrants' or any other persons' computers related to or resulting from participation, uploading or downloading of any materials related to this Contest.
RIGHT TO CANCEL OR SUSPEND CONTEST
If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, due to infection by computer virus, bugs, worms, trojan horses, denial of service attacks, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Maine Media Workshops that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, Maine Media Workshops reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual(s) who tamper with the entry process, and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest. If Maine Media Workshops elects to cancel or terminate the Contest, Maine Media Workshops will not retain any rights in the submitted entries and will return the entry fees.
In the unlikely event that it is necessary, Maine Media reserves the right to make changes to the Contest.
